In France, in general, the institutions, the documentation and the professionals think more in terms of "adult and professional education and guidance" rather than lifelong learning. Nevertheless, the term "apprendre tout au long de la vie" hast started to make its way in the vocabulary of the actors of the economic, political and educational actors. The point of view of the AURA Region in not specific regarding the "definition" of LLL. The AURA Region has made its priority of re-localisation, industrial sovereignty, and employment.

Emilia-Romagna is a highly developed Italian region, well-known for the strength of its industrial and social tissue, and its performance in the education and training field is also reputed to be of a high standard, not only for the national average of Italy, but also in a European perspective. However, the concept of Lifelong Learning as such is seldom utilised in Regional Policy and is understood only by a minority of people. The literal translation sounds like a condemn (Assonance with lifelong jail, “ergastolo”) and the Italian official translation “apprendimento nel corso di tutta la vita” sounds a bit better but still very artificial and abstract, not corresponding to concrete experience by the majority of citizen

At a time when formal learning systems are unable to adapt to rapid change, lifelong learning has become more important than ever for learners to access up-to-date information. Rapid changes in the quality of information required by the age and technological developments have led to a focus on increasing the impact of lifelong learning as a complementary learning system. Components such as the scope, boundaries, quality, strategies, joint work of partners, needs of beneficiaries, monitoring and evaluation of lifelong learning, lifelong learning programmes and access to lifelong learning, lifelong guidance are key issues in increasing the impact of the lifelong learning system.

The document prepared in the framework of the COMORELP project (Joint Monitoring of Regional Lifelong Learning Policies) summarises the evaluation of regional lifelong learning policies in the Małopolska region. The evaluation was based on a tool prepared by representatives of the project's partner institutions, representing Poland, Italy, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, and Turkey. The tool includes an evaluation of different aspects of lifelong learning policy in the region – Its management, design and implementation, and evaluation.

Wales is a nation that has a strong culture of and commitment to LLL (lifelong learning). The concept of LLL in Wales stems back to “adult education” that goes back to reforms and movements in the early 1900s1. Although there are many LLL offers available and citizen of Wales have entitlements to learning, the reality is that the uptake is in decline. Participation of LLL over the last decade has steadily fallen, and there are large inequalities to LLL uptake by age, socio economic background and prior educational attainment.

European Round Table on LLL Regional Policies

The COllaborative MOnitoring REgional Lifelong Policies (“COMORELP”) project held a European Round Table conference in a hybrid format in the beautiful venue of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland on 13-14th June 2022. As part of the initiatives of the Laboratories of Regional Lifelong Learning Policies in different EU regions, the conference gathered project partners and stakeholders from across Europe to exchange experiences and share the results of the project achieved so far

Inter-regional Cooperation for better LLL Policies

COMORELP’s final conference, organised by the Lifelong Learning Platform, took place on May 10 2023 and brought together over 100 participants from across Europe joining us online and in person in Brussels. The conference highlighted the challenges to and needs of, involving regional and local stakeholders in design, monitoring, implementation, and evaluation of lifelong learning (LLL) policies, all the while offering insight into the EU’s initiatives towards regional cooperation in national and European LLL policies.

Transnational Project Meeting in Istanbul

The host institution Bogazici University Lifelong Learning Center welcomed the project partners at the Bogazici University and the meeting started on 7th November 2022. After reviewing the Agenda the Project Coordinator Dr. Barbara Worek has initiated the discussion on Regional Round Tables that conducted in each region for self-assessment of regional policies and lifelong learning activities. Each partner has presented the overall evaluation with short presentations.
